This is the time of year when I would normally do a "what's new this fall on TV" kind of post, but, to be honest, this year there's not a single new show that has me excited. I would be interested in the new Star Trek series if it weren't going to air on the CBS streaming network, but I'm not paying for another streaming service right now. I'm sure I'll be watching The Mayor, which sounds as though it fits right into my sitcom wheelhouse. Beyond that, there's nothing that interests me very much.

The three returning shows that I'm most looking forward to are The Good Place (which is already back), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, and Stranger Things. I like all of these shows A LOT, but I wouldn't consider myself fannish about any of them. I kind of miss being fannish about something.

Unlike my mother, I never had to slaughter chickens in my childhood. Or adulthood, for that matter. But her eyewitness account is that they do indeed run around after you cut off their heads. So there's a reason for that expression.

It's applicable to how I feel right now: running around in what feels like an increasingly incomprehensible mission, wondering if I'm missing something absolutely essential to this whole life process... probably I just need a nice nap and someone to clean that kitchen for me.

Anyway! Shows are coming back to TV. I finally gave up on This Is Us. I enjoyed all five episodes I watched from season one, and I adored seeing Sterling K. Brown onscreen, but I just didn't think about the show when I didn't take deliberate steps to watch it. Instead I whiled away my time with frivolities like The Good Place--and apparently that started last night, so I think I'll go watch 2.01 before I get completely spoiled by the internet for any/all juicy details.

Inspired by Mark Watches, I've been rewatching Person of Interest season one. This is partly in the hope that I'll feel inspired to complete one of those unfinished fanfics I have on the computer. No show since then has brought that level of fannish inspiration. I literally haven't finished a new fanfic on my own in, er, three and a half years? Which, not so coincidentally, is two months after the departure of a character from PoI, so... hence the hope that watching the parts from before that exit will inspire me.
Never try to mean girl at a Slytherin.

I just need to find a good picture. Suggestions?

People keep making the mistake of thinking that just because I'm nice, I'm a pushover. Or gullible. Or both.

That is...beyond hilarious as a concept.

Fuck everyone today.

(Work issues, though I've run into the same idea outside of work, I suppose. I will elaborate when I'm not vaguebooking on a work computer on a work network.)
Not because I dislike the heat, because I unironically like 90+ degree hot, humid weather, but because it's given the ragweed fresh life. I'm sneezing non-stop.

We were reviewing the kidlet's U.S. history project on Colonial Virginia, which involved Jamestown, and I took it kind of farther than his teacher did. (I do that a lot. History is broadly expansive.) Also I got to explain that Captain John Smith was an asshole, and I got to whine later to Mr. Havoc that I really don't like Pocahontas (the Disney film), not because I don't like Pocahontas (she was awesome), but because John Smith was an asshole, not a romantic lead.

You have no idea how much my dad told me about John Smith and Jamestown when I was a kid. You really have no idea.

So I also learned that the kidlet didn't know why the Church of England formed, and this all culminated in my explaining to him that Henry VIII wanted to get remarried, the Pope told him no, and the Henry said, essentially, "Screw you, I'm the King of England! I'll start my own church!"

It was a glorious moment. I love being a parent.
i found perogies at aldi's, they have no eggs or milk in them! they "may contain trace etc" of milk, but that's because the other ones they sell have cheddar in them. i haven't had perogies since i was a teenager, i used to eat them fried with salsa, probably won't fry them given i'm not eating oil, unless i bake instead of boil them i'll probably just have them like raviolis. lol my mom didn't pick any up since she wasn't sure kitkat would go for it, i told her just tell her they're potato raviolis... but oh well.

I think my mom has my paper towels... but yeah idk if they just didn't have any but i didn't get the bleach.

eta: well, shit. the other thing i went in for was ketchup, which i also didn't get (though also... didn't see?). :/
Other than major news incidents, which are mostly weather-related these days. Okay, not really, but I'm not getting into politics right now. I'm not in the right headspace to handle that.

Please tell me how you're doing! What's going on in your life?

Things in my life after the kidlet's bar mitzvah have mostly been terrible and I'm not ready to talk about them yet, which is why I haven't been updating any of them yet. Distract me from that, please.

I'm so far behind on my tv-watching that I'm just now getting to the Supergirl finale. One spoilery quibble with the first half of the finale that relates to U.S. Constitutional law. )

I'm very much enjoying everything about Supergirl otherwise, at least. I haven't even touched on my summer tv watching yet. It's been that kind of summer.

so remember when my face was infected? i've been to the dentist (a couple months back) then they told me to get a doctors note due to all my health problems, so i went, not once, but THREE times last month to the cardiologist trying to get one, he said he'd send it over... i call to reschedule the extraction, and they don't have it, so i called the cardiologist and they say they have snail mailed it to them. So, I'm still in limbo. BUT not dying! so there is that. i want to get it done and over with before my dad gets into town, because i have to have my meds altered and give myself shots twice a day for a week prior and a week after the procedure.
